Spring light

Isn't it lovely to see Spring on it's way? Minus storm Doris which was terrible! I'm glad I only popped out to the shops in the morning because it certainly got worse in the afternoon. There were bins toppled over, rubbish in the streets and flying everywhere and peoples fences falling down. There was even a tree over the road that had completely uprooted and had fallen onto the path towards peoples houses! How did everyone else get on through the storm?

Other than the storm we have had some really lovely sunny weather. Last week I was thinking about how much I wanted to buy some daffodils. So I bought myself a bunch of daffodils from the shop the other day to put in my empty coffee jar, which makes the perfect vase! Daffodils really do brighten up a room and I always love having a bunch of flowers to stand on my bedside table.

Although I've always said I'm more of an Autumn person, I have so many favourite things about Spring. One of them is when we start to see the brighter mornings and evenings. I love seeing the sun creep through my curtains in the mornings, which makes getting up earlier so much more easier. Although I am so used to getting up early in the mornings, I'm really not the biggest fan of getting ready for the day when it's still dark outside. I love being able to look out of the window in the morning to a hopefully sunny day and be able to do my make up in natural light!

Then when the evenings are brighter I love it when I can keep my curtains open for longer and the lights don't go on till around 5:30 and 6. Of course when it's Winter I love the cosiness of the evenings. But when I was alone and coming home from work I hated being out in the dark evenings, especially when my shifts finished around 5 which was when the evening was getting towards it's darkest. Although there were lots of people around waiting for the same bus I still felt a little anxious, not to mention I always avoided the field route to my house which at night was so quiet and wasn't lit up as much. So I'm definitely happy to see the lighter evenings back again!

I also love being able to photograph later on in the day. I find it rather difficult to take photos in the Winter, especially if I'm taking photos indoors. When I was photographing some of my baking series, I always had to bake early in the morning so I could work with the natural light as our kitchen doesn't get much light in the Winter afternoons. But I love baking in the Spring time when the sun is shining through the kitchen and I can photograph with all the natural light.

What do you like most about the Spring light?

  1. Your photos are just gorgeous! Usually we have a rough time with storms, being near the West coast so braced ourselves for Doris, but nothing happened! Maybe we were too far up north this time haha; such beautiful daffodils! :D I love spring, it's so wonderful, the feeling of everything getting warmer and lighter, baby animals, blossom, excitement and Easter chocolate haha! xx

  2. I'm definitely more of an Autumn/Winter person as well, but I've learned to appreciate the Spring (love having a wider 'photos schedule' as well)! Lovely post :)

    1. I agree, I love the light more than I ever did when I was younger, I used to close my curtains because I didn't like the sun! But now I just love everything about Spring! Thanks for reading :)

  3. The daffodils have definitely brightened up your space!

What I like about spring is the shift in temperatures, where there is still a little bit of the coolness of winter but it isn't hot an unbearable as summer.

    1. They really do don't they! I agree, I'm not the biggest fan of Summer because I'm not too good with the heat but I love the Spring as it's not too cold and not too hot!

  4. I'm definitely a spring person and every year as the days get longer I feel my mood greatly improve. I love when you catch the spring light just right in the early morning so it's soft and hazy. x

  5. I love spring (though summer is my ultimate favourite season), but I just love the excitement of all the spring flowers popping up! I need to find myself some daffodils too!
I love that it's getting lighter out too! I really struggle waking up in the morning when it's dark out so it's been so nice lately!

  6. Such pretty photos Kayleigh and your daffodils are gorgeous. I must say I too love the early morning light, that beautiful haze that gives the feeling that you're the only person awake in the whole wide world. I also adore leaving work when it still light, what a treat!

This post really made me smile, I hope you don't mind if I pop it in my newsletter next week. <3

  7. Yes, I'm enjoying the possibility of taking photos post-5pm too! I'm quite like you in that I always say I'm an autumn person but have a real soft spot for spring. Maybe it's the change we're drawn too - winter and summer seem to just fade in, whereas autumn and spring feel a bit more seismic..
