Autumn Magic & Reflecting on a Slow Lived Summer

Autumn window sill view with pumpkin and leaves

I'm so happy that we can now officially say it is Autumn! Autumn will always be my favourite time of the year, it definitely has something to do with the magic that this season brings. Such as the wonderful colours of oranges, yellows and reds, the temperatures dropping with a crisp and fresh chill in the air, darker evenings with fairy lights and candles bringing a cosy atmosphere to our homes, pumpkins to decorate the home, Autumn baking to fill out kitchens with the smells of cinnamon and spice and Autumn wardrobes with chunky knits, scarves and lace up boots.

Looking back on Summer it was a lot different than usual for me this year. I've never been a big fan of Summer, but at the start of the year I wanted a change and decided that I wanted to start embracing each of the seasons. I decided to take on a slow lived Summer, enjoying the littlest things about the season and also spending time focusing on those all important mindful moments. With a few setbacks and dealing with stress over the past couple of months, I had been feeling exhausted from it all and had a big fall in my motivation. But spending those moments such as a walk through a nature trail discovering wild flower meadows, a few days spent exploring the coast and countryside of Cornwall and winding down in the evenings with a good book made things just that little bit more manageable.

I'll be doing the same throughout Autumn, reminding myself to spend those mindful moments when things get too much and carrying on the slow living movement into this new season. I've already written my things to see and do this Autumn post and I'll definitely be making sure to tick off some of the activities from the list. I'm going to be getting stuck into some Autumn themed baking, adding spices and incorporating pumpkin into recipes. Having a go at some arts and crafts, carving and decorating pumpkins and maybe have a go at making an Autumn wreath!

What are your plans for this Autumn?

Happy Autumn!
